Bully, Bully

When I was in elementary school, children that misbehaved in class were called down and disciplined by the teachers. It usually started with a stern voice and explanation why that behavior was inappropriate. Most student complied with what they were told to do by teachers and the norm was for that student never having to be corrected again for the same infraction. There were a few children that were more aggravating than others and took more teacher time, but the teachers usually managed it in the classroom.

At home, kids playing with other neighborhood kids occasionally had disputes with each other and they managed it within their peer group. People that had a tendency for bullying were usually not invited to events and were shunned by others in the group. Occasionally a parent or parents were involved, but that was seldom.

Junior high and high school provided a little more freedom for youngsters and most of the time, students obeyed the teachers. For some infractions at school, unruly students were sent to the principal’s office. Those occasions were rare. Bullying that took place was usually in the hallway, gym class or lunch periods. There were usually teachers around to prevent things from getting out of hand.

Bullies are cowards. They like bullying weaker people or softer-spoken people and usually do it out of sight of people that can stop them. In the neighborhoods people avoid the bullies. Bullies also like to use gang-tactics to bully people they cannot bully as an individual.

Bullies have been around forever, but they were few and they were the exception. There were some groups like the KKK or motorcycle clubs that were aggressive and dangerous in their bullying, but local law enforcement has all but stopped working with them and ignoring them. Now these well-known groups are watched and minimized.

Bullying changed in the last few years and I think it started by electing a community organizer as our President. His solution to bullying was not to retrain the bully. His approach was to retrain everyone else to recognize a bully and call them out. That is right. Our approach has changed forever from addressing bullies’ behavior to teaching everyone else to be a bully.

The community organizer divided us up along racial lines, ethnic lines, sex, sexual orientation and any other division he and his cohorts could muster. Now we have bullies in mass around the country. Antifa is a bullying group that has assumed authority to attack anyone they choose. They usually stay in Democrat controlled cities, because Democrat mayors and police chiefs will not stop their violence or tyranny. Feminists hold marches in cities and exclude Republican women and women that oppose abortion. People on the political right are shunned by the LGBT community. Black Lives Matter despises anyone that think other lives matter. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus is made of Democrats and held a meeting last week to decide if they should let a Republican Hispanic join them.

The trend in colleges is to shun and hate white males for their masculinity. The new hierarchy for professors calling on students in class is black women, other people of color, white women and if no one else has an answer, they will call on a white male. This IS a thing and it is happening.

The news media has jumped on the bullying bandwagon. The only thing consistent about the plethora of new bullies we now encounter is that they are on the left. Obama should be proud.

What Matters

Have you ever thought of the purpose of laws? Why do we need government involvement in our society? I have heard many people say, “Without laws you have anarchy.” That is probably true, but why is it true? If everyone assumed personal responsibility and did not take advantage of other people, there would be little need for law.

Most of us know people that do not have a value system. Our country and our founding documents were created based on Judeo-Christian values. Many scoff at that, without any explanation of what value system is better. I do not propose people get religion, but I do think a civilized society is based on individuals showing civility to each other. This is only possible if there is a value system. Law is not good enough, because the law begins at a point that is way past civil. What our legal system does is control people with a lack of a value system at the furtherest extreme of what is civil.

Where did you get your value system? Mine began with my father and mother and was enhanced by my brother and sister, my grandparents, neighbors, school teachers, classmates and church. Families matter. Communities matter. Education matters.

Forty or so years ago, people of Hollywood and a few other public figures began openly defying the value of the family. Of course, there have always been children born out of wedlock, but Hollywood glorified it and made it mainstream. Now we have men fathering children with no assumed responsibility for their upbringing. This implies that some men do not respect the women they have relationships with and some women are not taught to demand respect.

Our country is divided. I cannot imagine why it would not be divided. We have a group of black people advocating for the murder of police officers. We have college professors, that ignore 8,000 years of science and think a person can change their sex in their own mind. We have Antifa and their allies denying free speech to everyone. We have nations engaged in a war of words that may lead to war with actual battlegrounds and people dying. We have a nation that advocates for the destruction of another nation and extinction of its people.

We have people in this country that think non-citizens have rights that our citizens do not. We have colleges and even states that give benefits to people here illegally that they do not offer to American citizens. We have people advocating for killing babies, so mothers do not have to use readily available contraceptives. We have people wasting time trying to remove firearms from our society. Get real. It will never happen.

We have wealthy people getting wealthier at the expense of the rest of our society. Government appears to be mostly on their side. Politicians main job is to get re-elected and that costs money. Long ago politicians stopped working for the people and started working for moneybags.

The scariest part of all of this is we may be the most tolerant nation in the world. We seem to be the most caring and the most giving. I think we are the best hope for the survival of the people on our earth. We must hold the line on our borders and maintain our American values. We must start rebuilding families and passing on our values to our offspring, lest we move toward the anarchy that will destroy our country and allow the demise of mankind.

From Here Where

We have a lot of turmoil in our country and around the world. We have individuals around the world killing others for their own reasons, the latest being in Las Vegas. Nature also got into the act with hurricanes, earthquakes and monsoon rains.

Hurricane Maria was a class 5 storm that caused damage in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. It will be a year or more before they get their medical facilities and electricity grid restored and even longer trying to clean up residual trash and rebuild homes and businesses on the island. Many have evacuated to Florida and probably will not return. Delivering materials to their ports was the easy part, but distribution of life saving materials inland has been poor. Governor Ricardo Rosello is working with FEMA to coordinate supply distribution with slow success.

Hurricane Irma went through the Bahamas, Turks Caicos, the Greater Antilles, the Virgin Islands, the Leeward Islands, Cape Verde, the Florida Keys and on into the Florida mainland leaving floods and wind damage behind. Friends and neighbors pitched in to help each other, as Governor Rick Scott took responsibility for the Florida recovery and worked with FEMA and city mayors to implement his plan.

Hurricane Harvey, which caused problems for Belize, Nicaragua, Honduras, the Yucatan Peninsula and the Windward Islands on the way to flooding portions of Texas from the coast into Houston, then moving east through Port Arthur Beaumont and into Louisiana. Governors Greg Abbot of Texas and John Bel Edwards of Louisiana worked with FEMA and coordinated rescue and recovery efforts for their respective states.

Saving flood victims

Mexico had a severe 7.1 earthquake that wreaked havoc in central Mexico and into Mexico City.  People, working with their bare hands, pitched in immediately and began searching for buried individuals in the debris. They did not wait for instructions and did not wait for coordination. They went to work.

Monsoon rains have caused flooding in Nepal, Bangladesh and India, killing over 1,200 people. Over 18,000 schools are shut down and they do not know when classes will resume.

Flooding in India

News people in this country cover major events, then revert to the story of the day. Attacks on the Trump administration about slow recovery in Puerto Rico is a big story pushed by the media. Gun control and the National Rifle Association get a lot of news time following any mass shooting in the country. Players kneeling during our national anthem before games in the National Football League have taken a lot of air time. News people drive the political agenda. They look for any opportunity to place the blame and skew the truth to fit their liberal narrative. It is labeled fake news for obvious reasons.

There have always been problems in the world, but I do not recall a time when placing the blame on anyone solved any problems. Natural disasters are out of our control, but our response to them are our responsibility, Black people have stated grievances about their treatment by police, government and white people, all the while acknowledging they would rather be here than anywhere else.

Solutions to many of the world’s problems are easier found in communities where individuals accept responsibility for their actions. Families usually share values and help each other. Waiting for someone else to solve your problem does not seem to work in our world.

Current Events

Our friends and family in the Houston area are still recovering from the devastating flooding caused by hurricane Harvey camping over the area for a week or so. I read an article yesterday that the Harris County Flood Control District issued a report over twenty years ago with a plan to prevent the flooding from being so catastrophic. The politicians would not spend the money at that time, I think in the $40 million range. Think what is being spent now for recovery and it is in the $100 billion range.

Of course, this was an unusual hurricane, but rivers and reservoirs and dams cause flood events frequently. Actions not taken years ago will probably cost $100 million now. Sad, but the money will probably still not be spent to prevent future disasters.

Now hurricane Irma hit the west coast of Florida and weakened as it moved north.  It was a category four storm that has already caused devastation in the Florida Keys, Lower Antilles islands and Caribbean nations. The entire peninsula of Florida will be affected by wind and rising water. Restoring electricity seems to be the biggest concern, now. Hopefully, the federal government will update the coastal maps to better identify high flood risk areas, although the people living there already know if they are in peril.

Our best wishes for people across the southern part of the United States as they recover from these disasters. Minimal loss of life and property is something for which to pray,

Forest fires in California, Montana, Oregon and Utah are causing severe damage to our forested areas and taking some homes away with the trees. Environmentalists, the Interior Department and lumber companies need to get together and initiate a tree cutting program to thin the forests, provide lumber for new building and lessen the ferocity of the forest fires. There is a lot we could do to help ourselves.

While all this is going on in the USA, 1,400 people have died from monsoon flooding in south Asia, primarily from India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Mother nature does not discriminate. Many natural disasters occur each year.

A happier note:

Our nephew, Austin Clark and a few of his friends that recently graduated from Liberty Hill High School were sworn in as United States Marine recruits on September 5th. They will attend Boot Camp in San Diego. Congratulations to the new Marine recruits and thanks to Liberty Hill for supporting these young men and their families. Austin is a great kid and we all love and appreciate him and his choice to serve this nation.

Proud to be joining the Marines.

Bye, Harvey

From tropical storm to class 4 hurricane, Harvey was one of the worst disasters in Texas history. No one is sorry to see Harvey move along and dissipate. Harvey formed fast, but it did not act alone. A high-pressure area to the north and west of Texas kept the storm from moving inland, as tropical storms normally do. The consistent high-pressure area lingering to the north caused Harvey to stay in the same area for a long, long time, dropping rain for a good portion of its existence. Rockport and Aransas Pass took the brunt of the wind, but Houston received the most flood damage. Recovery will take years.

I felt all the government agencies worked well together. Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick, the Texas governor and lieutenant governor seemed to be well prepared to manage the crisis. President Trump, FEMA, the Department of Homeland Security and Housing and Urban Development were all engaged. Sylvester Turner, the mayor of Houston took some flak for not ordering an evacuation, but people complaining do not understand the issues he had to face. Houston is big. Way bigger than any other city in land area. Evacuating the whole city was not a possibility and determining who to evacuate was equally impossible. Turner stayed engaged and helped coordinate disaster relief. Who could ask for more? There is nothing smooth in handling disasters. Leadership staying engaged and coordinating is the best you can ever hope to get. I saw that happening.

The governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards was also engaged and helping with relief efforts. Texas and Louisiana both called the National Guard into service. The Department of Defense is mobilizing other National Guard units to assist in the rescue and clean-up efforts.

Kathi and I are in Utah, far away from the storm, but I am a proud Texan. People helped one another. Family members took care of their extended families, then looked elsewhere to provide more assistance. Some of the volunteers had their own homes under water and were still out helping others. Some were gathering donations to provide warmth and food to evacuees. Other volunteers, including the Coast Guard and Cajun Navy were out in boats rescuing stranded people.

With all the commotion in Texas it is easy to overlook the problems people were having elsewhere. We had friends in Florida that had flooded houses and cars. Hurricanes and tropical storms are a big deal.

There were some looters and a few burglaries, but these incidents were few and the compassion of the Texas people much overshadow these lawless creeps.

The rain is slowing and some sunshine is returning. Recovery will take years. Some of our friends and neighbors lost everything. State and federal help is available. Insurance money will come in slowly, but it will come. Mostly people will have to help themselves and get some help from their friends and families. That is how we always recover. The help is always there. That is why we will always recover. What a country and what great people.

Remember Harry?

Harry S Truman was our 33rd President. I remember him as an individual thinker and one that did not shirk responsibility. He authorized the use of atomic weapons against Japan to help end WW II. Following the war, he initiated the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe. He also led the way into the cold war to combat Russian and Chinese Communism, via the Truman Doctrine. He also was instrumental in the creation of the NATO agreement.

He inherited a progressive Congress that followed the socialist policies of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Truman vetoed 180 bills that Congress sent to him. He liked a good political fight, especially when he thought he was right. The Congress overrode his veto 12 times.

Some Harry Truman quotations that describe his thinking:

Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.

The reward of suffering is experience.

America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.

I never did give anybody hell. I just told them the truth and they thought it was hell.

You know that being an American is more than a matter of where your parents came from. It is a belief that all men are created free and equal and that everyone deserves an even break.

A leader in the Democratic Party is a boss, in the Republican Party he is a leader.

The only things worth learning are the things you learn after you know it all.

The buck stops here!

Those who want the Government to regulate matters of the mind and spirit are like men who are so afraid of being murdered that they commit suicide to avoid assassination.

When even one American - who has done nothing wrong - is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth - then all Americans are in peril.

Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and promoted by a sick mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by clean end!

I see a lot of Harry in The Donald.

Truth is funny in political conversations. I tell people facts all the time and my friends on the left accuse me of right wing propaganda. I may use satire occasionally, but I never intentionally mislead anyone and I do not intend to do that here. There are two sides to every story and I like to hear and try to understand both sides.

I do not like or support white supremacists or KKK members. I also do not like or support black lives matter. I do not like the Muslim Brotherhood. I do not support the Democrats city and state leaders who are removing Confederate statues and Confederate names from buildings. When the last statue is gone, will we no longer be a racist country, where slavery existed?

Robert E Lee memorial statue
I see no value in trying to erase our history. You can do it in public, but you will never get rid of all the books that tell our story. If you think you need a safe space, you actually need another country. Once you walk out of a safe space you are back in the real world with people that have freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom to do a lot of things none of us like.

History is something to embrace and study. As a country, there are things we are proud of and things that do not bestow pride. Both are part of who we are as a nation. People are supposed to learn from their mistakes and become better people. We call it informal education. People collectively learn the same way and those memories help us adjust our laws and social norms to fit the needs of all of us. There is no safe space, there is just here where we live.

We are at a place in our history where people on the left feel obligated to beat up people they think might say something they do not like. They accuse the people they beat up of saying words that might cause violence, so the leftist solution is to fulfill their own prophesy. Is this not insane?

In Charlottesville, a statue of Robert E. Lee was being removed to satisfy some people that hate slavery. Well, some other people that also hate slavery have a different understanding of the purpose of the statues. Until we understand that others also have a right to a point of view, we will have conflict.

White supremacists got a permit to demonstrate the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville. White supremacists showed up for the rally from states all over the country. A few joined in that just like statues and some joined in because they resent our history being destroyed. If these people were allowed to hold their rally in peace, the hateful supremacists would have been peaceful. They normally do not riot and destroy property.

The peace was threatened when opposition, ready for a confrontation, showed up to antagonize the supremacists. It seems to have worked. One of the supremacists got in a car and drove into the crowd, killing one and injuring several others. He should be prosecuted for murder and he will get his trial. You cannot equate what this person did and assign the blame to everyone in the group to which he belonged. That is not proper, just or legal.

President Trump disavowed the violence on national television. News pundits are criticizing him for not placing all the blame on the white supremacists. He is smart enough to realize they were not the only ones involved. Take off the political blinders and you can see the truth.

Help Wanted

The last few years we spent in Texas, we saw, “Help Wanted” signs in many businesses. Restaurants, stores where gasoline is sold, beauty parlors, auto parts stores and many others are looking for more workers. We knew the Texas economy was doing well and assumed businesses were thriving and growing.

Our trip this year from Texas to the Oregon coast, we visited Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada and Oregon. Everywhere we went, we saw more, “Help Wanted” signs.

We talked to people at the Winstar world casino and they got many applications, but the people applying, mostly Texans, wanted more money than they were willing to pay. The applicants routinely told them that they could make almost as much on welfare so they chose not to work. That’s right. Young able-bodied people were on welfare, because they drew almost as much from the government as they could get on a job, so they chose idleness.

Think about that. There is talk from the progressives about the government providing everyone a salary, so no one must work. These people do not have any idea the decadence that will cause in our population. It appears our welfare programs are already there.

When we were in Ogden and Sunset Utah, we found the same thing. A McDonald's store in Roy, UT had a sign up apologizing for closing at 6:00 p.m. because they could not get employees to staff the evening shift. The server I talked to said they had applicants every day, but would not work for less than $15 per hour. When I asked an individual why she was working instead of being on the dole, she told me that she never even thought about that. She started working at an early age and never considered not working.

Do you realize that after not working for a while, people lose their skills and even worse, they lose the desire to work? Retirees all know that. Most people that retire stay retired, although some retire and go to work immediately doing something else. Putting healthy people on welfare does not do them a favor. It decreases their ability to produce.

Charlie’s Service in Sunset, UT was continually looking for RV and auto mechanics. They got very few applications. Young people with no tools and no experience wanted to start out at the hourly rate that experienced, self-efficient mechanics were making.

While Barack Obama was president, his job-killing policies put millions of Americans out of work. Welfare was the only choice many had. Progressive policies always do that and Obama was more effective than most other progressive presidents.

Now that we are creating jobs again in this country, we have a lot of younger people who will not participate, if welfare gives them enough to survive. The federal government and the states must turn off the spigot to hardy people.

Unfortunately, most of the people marching in the streets as protestors do not have the skills they need to get in the labor force. We may have to cut off the welfare before they will even agree to be re-trained. The good progressives like to pretend they are passionate, but their policies provide decadence.

How Things Get Done

When a group of concerned people are assigned a complicated task to accomplish, it is hard to get started, unless someone shows up with an idea, often called a strawman. If that person is allowed to explain the idea in a manner that is understandable to others in the workgroup, they have an agreed understanding and a place to start. Everyone else in the work group may have ideas that will make completion of the task simpler or more effective, so they try to include as many of the good ideas as they can. Some ideas conflict with others and an agreement must be made on which idea to implement and which to exclude. When the proposal is ready to submit or work is ready to begin on the project, they put the proposal in a format that is easiest to explain.

When the proposal is presented to the leadership team, there are usually several members of the leadership team that say the proposal will not work. Most of the leadership team members are skeptical of everything and some object, before understanding the proposal. That starts arguments between members of the leadership team and usually one or more of the leadership team walks away from the presentation angry or frustrated that everyone else does not see their point of view. The leadership team leader is normally the one to accept or deny the proposal, after understanding the concept and hearing all objections. Some minor changes may be made after the presentation, but usually not major changes. If the proposal is deemed improbable of success it is usually scrapped and a new workgroup is assigned to take on the problem. If the proposal is deemed probable of success, the proposal is made public.

Some of the public likes you and they listen with an open mind and are willing to go along with implementation of the project. The portion of the public that does not like you will not listen to the presentation, will never understand the proposal and will harp and complain constantly that it will not work. We usually call these people ignorant and they are ignorant by choice. The people that understand the least complain the most.

We have a country full of people that choose ignorance, rather than listen to someone they do not like. We have a political party that survives by dividing us. So many know so little they do not realize the enemy is themselves. Or like Pogo said many years ago, “We have met the enemy and it is us.”

If you want to know the truth, do not waste time talking to people that agree with you. You learn the truth by trying to understand the people with whom you disagree.

45 %

All through the 2015-2016 election season, Donald Trump kept a constant 45% of primarily Republican voters. Everyone said he did not have a chance to get elected, because he never polled over 50%. When we got to the general election, Trump kept getting 45% in the polls. All the pollsters were sure he could not win with only 45% of the people supporting him. He won anyway.

The 45% of voters in this country that still support Donald Trump is constant, because Trump’s mindset is like ours. Yes, I am in the 45% and I will be hard to dissuade. I think we are the main stream of America. I think we are the bulk of the middle class. We consist of die-hard Republicans, disgruntled Republicans, disenchanted Democrats, and independents that were willing to take a chance for something better in their life. The coalition is solid, because Trump is attuned to what is hurting our country.

The left won elections during the Obama years by dividing our country. Blacks against white, undocumented aliens against Americans, teachers against Republicans, the gay-lesbian community against Christians, Hispanics against whites, students and college professors against white men and a lot of other divisive groups. The enchantment of division began to wear thin.

The left has almost shut down free speech on college campuses and are beginning to branch out to the rest of society. They go after jobs of people they disagree with for any non-ideological belief. They boycott businesses that do business with their chosen enemies. They destroy all monuments to anyone that did anything in the past they deem inappropriate. They are trying to change our history and ruin the livelihood of their opposition.

What our response should be is to try and grow the 45%. John McCain and a few other congressional Republicans seem to be openly against everything Trump does. I have thought McCain should be out of the Senate for many years, because I favor term limits, but more people are opposing McCain and calling for him to lose his office, because he speaks out against Trump. Shepherd Smith, a well-known Democrat on Fox News criticized Trump and people started shouting for him to lose his job. My advice is to stop that talk. That is what people outside the 45% do and we cannot become them and keep our country. If we act like the opposition acts, we are them. Stop it.

Trump needs more supporters that are drawn to him by better opportunities, more safety, better jobs and better lives. We do not need to lose anyone because we act like the opposition. We need to support “freedom of Speech.,” especially when we disagree with it. We need to support “freedom of Religion,” even though it is not our religion. We need to allow peaceful protesters freedom of assembly. We must stand with the Constitution. I think that is where Trump stands.

Saturday, February 18, 2017

Not too many years ago, we had liberal college professors who were brow-beating college students who did not follow the liberal path. Conservative thinking was shunned. Letter grades were reduced if you argued with them. Faculty and students alike began protesting anyone that came to campus to speak for the conservatives. Pre-school through high school students were getting fair educations, but not good educations. Too many students were graduating who did not have reading and mathematics skills. Protests away from campuses were few. A few cities had gay pride parades which drew little attention, but they paraded in peace and were mostly allowed to parade without incident. There were neighborhoods that did not like police methods that reduced crime and got violent felons off our streets.

Now we are living with the aftermath of a community organizer as the leader in charge of our country. Slowly and steadily he worked against effective policing methods. He worked for putting more felons on our streets. He ignored laws that he did not personally approve. Senate rules were changed so he could stack the courts with liberal judges. The Republicans allowed him to put two judges on the supreme court that clearly had little respect for the Constitution. He opened the doors of our country to people that did not have a legal right to be here, including some felons and possible terrorists.

He traveled the world spewing his despise of the United States. His environmental activism was designed to send our tax money to countries that were not as prosperous as we are, while shutting down our industries and killing jobs. He selected a person to lead the Department of Education that thought teaching sexual activities to elementary school children was the best way to reduce bullying in schools. He constantly criticized the police for doing their job. He stopped law enforcement under his command to stop doing their usual function. He turned our government into a group that went after his political enemies. Every way he could divide us to gain votes, he accomplished.

They co-opted the common core school curriculum to subject children to leftist propaganda at an earlier age. White people and especially white men are taught to despise themselves. What we are left with is college campuses with students and professors that riot and destroy property and beat up people that say anything different from what they believe. Free speech is gone at college. The Black Lives Matter Gangs advocated killing policemen and a few crazy people in the country heard the call and police officers were murdered.

Black organizations that were formed to support black people only support liberal black people. They despise black conservatives and black Republicans. They do not like black people that find their own way to success without government support. Feminists only support liberal women that favor abortion. If you are a conservative woman or a Republican woman you are despised by feminists. Many neighborhoods and schools display the Mexican flag with pride while burning our American flag. Flag burning draws a larger crowd than a dog fight.

Unfortunately, the people left behind were primarily the middle class in the country, regardless of race, color, national identity, sex, or sexual orientation. It took a while, but a lot of these people woke up and looked around and did not like what we have become. Barack Obama is solely responsible for the election of Donald Trump. Now all people will be treated the same. Felons will be incarcerated again. People in the country without proper authority that commit crimes will be prosecuted and deported. Obama’s leftovers in the government are trying to sabotage President Trump and many will lose their government jobs because of it. Loser protesters in the streets will soon see the country getting better despite their opposition. Too many people are awake now. What took so long?

Compensation Equity

Most corporate officers have good educations and advanced degrees. Sometimes it means they are smart people and sometimes it means their family had enough money to pay for expensive schooling. Corporations generally pay their executives well. Thirty years ago, executives were paid for making their companies successful. Because of tax laws dictated by the government, compensation methods changed. Instead of salary increases, it became more beneficial to give corporate executives stock, medical care, country club memberships, etc.

When collective bargaining organizations ran into difficulty getting hourly wage increases, they started bargaining for more vacation days, more holidays, more sick days, better medical coverage and other needed benefits. Some companies have stock ownership plans or contribute to IRA’s for hourly employees.

I remember about twenty-five years ago; a large corporation was doing so badly they thought they needed to replace their CEO. He was under contract and to get him to leave they had to pay him higher compensation to leave than he would have made if he had kept his job. I do not remember the name of the company, but I do remember thinking, “What a stupid idea.” Paying a person to leave because he did a poor job. It became a standard practice to give people, especially CEO’s a large severance pay when they left, regardless of whether they were good at their job or not.

When government raised personal and corporate taxes, something had to give to keep profits up, so executives would not lose their positions. Salaries were now entrenched for corporate executives, and they could not raise prices, because the people also had less money to spend and they would lose business. The corporate solution to the problem was lower wages for hourly workers. American workers and labor unions were not anxious to take pay decreases and it also caused bad publicity for the corporations. So, what was the answer? Cheaper labor and more customers was their answer.

Corporations and the national chamber of commerce began lobbying congress to change immigration law to allow more immigrants who would work for a lower hourly wage. American workers and labor unions soon realized what was happening. Unions were divided on what they wanted. Some favored immigration to increase the size of their organizations and some wanted less immigration to keep wages high for the people they currently represented. Everything is complicated and it gets more complicated as government involvement increases.

Then along came a government that cared more about the weather than they cared about people. The result was corporations moved out of the country, more people became unemployed and the people still working were getting reduced compensation and fewer hours to work. Meanwhile corporate executives still had stocks that were increasing in value at the same time hourly workers were being replaced by lower paid workers or outright losing their jobs.

Today we have a pay disparity that needs to be addressed. If corporate executives and boards of directors do not recognize the problem and take some action to address it, the government will need to do that, which will make the issue more complicated. The best solution is for executives to pay attention and address the problem. In my opinion, less compensation at the top and better wages for their employees is the best answer.

Hierarchy of Being

In the United States, we talk a lot about being free. The truth is very few people are free. People have obligations to their spouses, their life mate, their significant other, their children, their employer, their creditors, etc. Anytime you have an ambition, you lose your freedom. Since most people are not free, what do we mean when we say “the land of the free?” Of course, that implies the rules you live by are different in different places. That is a fact. They are very different from one locale to another.

Freedom in the United States means freedom from government oppression. That is all it means. Every law that is passed reduces our freedom. Every single law reduces our freedom. Most laws make sense because they protect us from each other, other parts of government, corporations and a myriad of other things. Laws are created by people who think they know which freedoms we are willing to cede to government. One reason we have a lot of stupid laws is because lawmakers stay in office so long, they become arrogant. They place themselves above the laws they make for other people.

Have you ever thought about what you consider your personal governance? What is the hierarchy of laws, rules or guidelines you are willing to live by? How do you decide what is most important?

Here are a few of the many things available to consider our personal hierarchy of being:

Human being – natural rights
Etiquette -- good manners – social norms
Religious laws – religious doctrine
Federal laws
State laws
City ordinances
Social justice
The environment
School rules

I generally think of being a human being and having natural rights at the top of the list, but some locales, some types of governments and some religions do not see being a human being at the top of their hierarchy. Governing bodies can enforce their rules, but they usually do so within in the framework of the social norms in their locale.

Right now, in this country and around the world we have people in the streets trying to change the hierarchy of being for everyone. Many people think their personal beliefs take precedence over the law of the land.

Is the hierarchy of being changeable in different situations?  Is it okay to display different behaviors at school than you show at home? Do you act different when you are with your friends than you act in public?

We may get to the point that anarchists force each of us to choose a side. Think about what guides your life and lifestyle and how much of it you are willing to sacrifice to satisfy people that see the world differently.

The Moral High Ground

Nancy Pelosi and many other Democrats make speeches and interviews where they claim the Democrats have the Moral High Ground over Republicans. That may be true, but I would like to explore what Democrat moral high ground looks like.
I will start with an event that is currently in the news. President Trump was not sure the vetting procedures for immigrants used by the previous administration were adequate to keep people in the United States safe from terrorist attacks. To assure our safety, the president signed an executive order postponing immigration from seven middle eastern countries for a short time, giving the administration time to review immigrant vetting procedures.

What was the Democrat response? They lied. They protested Trump’s “Muslim ban.” Every Democrat that could get on the news said the term “Muslim ban.”  It is a lie and they know it is a lie. This is normal operating procedure for Democrats. Remember the birth control issue a few years back. Democrats accused Republicans of hating women because they opposed forcing religious organizations to pay for birth control, which was against their religious doctrine. Democrats claimed it was denying women access to health care. In other words, they lied. Everyone knew that anyone that wanted birth control still had the same access to birth control before the issue came up.

The Democrats oppose the new executive order on immigration vehemently. They are on TV daily and there are even protests around the country objecting to this executive order. They want the immigrants flooding into our country, because they think they will vote for Democrats. They care more about winning elections than they care about the safety of the American people.

This week two different campuses have had protests when someone that did not share their liberal views was scheduled to speak on their campus. We already knew that tenured leftist college professors will not allow new faculty members that do not share their world view. They do not want any opposing voices on their campuses. The students have taken up their cause. For many years, right leaning speakers have been threatened, if they have the audacity to speak in an academic arena.

Did you know that the police had instructions not to arrest anyone at Berkley? They welcomed the riots. University administrators agree with their professors that no dissenting points of view should be heard by their students.

It appears to me the Democrat moral high ground requires prevarication. If you and a group of your friends beat up and stomp and individual from the opposition, you are standing on the Democrat moral high ground. If you advocate killing policemen, you are standing in the Democrat moral high ground. The Democrat moral high ground requires people that value winning elections over the safety of the American People. If you are willing to deny Christians religious liberty, you are standing on Democrat moral high ground. The Democrat moral high ground requires advocates for slaughtering unborn children. Did someone change the meaning or moral while I was sleeping?

Temper Tantrums

The left is in fits all over the country. They began marching in the streets and blocking traffic in cities just after the 2016 presidential election results were announced. They began sham vote-recounts in several states and claimed their losing candidate was not a real loser, just kind of a stand-in loser. After unsuccessful re-counts the politicians gave up, but their supporters are still stomping their feet, marching in streets and rolling in the aisles because they lost an election – temper tantrums. The news media is glorifying the dissenters, but pay attention to the videos. Listen to their rhetoric. They act and sound like spoiled children.

They make up clever little chants, but why not? They all mimic the same words. Not ideas they have thought of themselves, but repetition of other like-minded whiners that also have no place to go during working hours. They are given words to say. Many are even paid to say the words and march as zealots.

The reason they have time to march is because the previous administration destroyed the job market in the country and it appears many on the left were the ones left behind. I find it amazing that business owners would prefer having someone that would come to work and do a good job for them, instead of hiring more whiners that would rather complain and march in the streets than work. Maybe business owners are not as shallow minded as they left represents them to be.

Long before the names of President Trump’s cabinet members were identified, the Senate led by Chuck Schumer began hating every nominee Trump named or would name. Long before Trump announced who would be his pick for the Supreme Court justice, they had placards made and buttons made hating the that person before they knew the name of the person they hated. All the protestors carried felt tip pens, so they could write in the name of the person they hated. Cute, ladies and gentlemen.

We have a president that has committed himself to representing all the people in the country. We have a president that is doing exactly what he said he would do during his campaign. He not only trounced the Democrat opposition, he also trounced all the Republican opposition. He won. He won, because a goodly number of people in this country were sick of the status-quo. Sick of a Washington that suppresses people instead of helping people. Politicians that would rather fight than switch. Well, those politicians are still there and they upped the ante on a fight they cannot win – stupid under any means of judgement.

President Trump with get the cabinet he wants. President Trump will get the Supreme Court justices he wants. Republicans in congress will fight tooth and nail against some of Trump’s proposals, but as near as I can tell, he feels the people gave him a mandate. Democrats in congress will rant and rave and continue acting and looking like fools. I suspect someone is collecting video to use in the next election against each of them.

One more huge push Trump needs to make is term limits for congress. Has-been Republicans and Democrats alike need to hit the road and fill the hallowed halls of congress with new ideas, new energy and elected officials that care more about their constituents than they care about getting re-elected. I am waiting with anticipation for that day.

The Media and Three Presidents

This is a synopsis of the relationship between our last three presidents and how they managed relationships with the media. There is a lot of controversy and a lot more media bickering today than I remember in the past. What drove us to this point? Before cable news we primarily had network TV news and daily city newspapers. Much of what people thought was based on the stories told on ABC, NBC and CBS news divisions. The New York Times and Washington Post newspapers swayed most political thinking.

Cable TV networks were the beginning of the news source changes. Then along came proliferation of the internet. Talk radio was out there, but not with a loud voice. Most news media had a leftward slant, but it was not blatantly unfair. They always favored Democrats over Republican administrations, primarily shown by the stories they chose to ignore, moreso than the stories they actually told.

That was the media situation when President George W. Bush came to office. Bush sometimes seemed to be tongue-tied when he spoke. The press ridiculed him. He rolled with it. He even changed the name of his strategy meetings to strategery meetings let the world know that being a human being mocked by the media did not bother him. After 9/11 and the war time actions Bush took, Code Pink started following & stalking him. They got plenty of media attention, moreso than the president. Bush rolled. He basically ignored the media.

President Obama came into office with the willing acceptance of the media. During the campaign season, there was tremendous press scrutiny of John McCain and Sarah Palin and almost no scrutiny of Obama. There was a concerted effort by the Democrat Party and the media to find “dirt” on Palin and find Republicans that would speak out against McCain.

There was a smattering of disreputable things in Obama’s history that were reported on Fox News and talk radio. Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayres, Acorn, birth records, etc. that the mainstream media refused to explore. Instead they jumped full force on the Obama team and became the standard bearers for the Democrat Party.

With the mainstream media on his side, President Obama went after Fox news and talk radio, being the only dissenting voices to tell the other side of the story. Obama used the full force of the government to try and shut down these voices. He used IRS investigations, FCC rules and regulations and the Department of Justice challenges to dissenting media. In other words, Obama wanted the news organizations that would tell you the truth to stop doing it.

By the time Trump ran for president, the mainstream news media was part of the Democrat Party. Trump was loud and boisterous, so they could not ignore him. They gave him plenty of air time to give him the rope he needed to hang himself. He hung and hung and hung, but would not go away. He played the press like a drum on his way to the oval office.

He used guile, energy, media-savvy and media exposure to win a rigorous campaign with all the mainstream media against him. He fought back with Twitter. He used and uses Twitter to force the telling of stories the mainstream media will not tell. As president, he uses Twitter to correct the record when the mainstream media told falsehoods about him.

An interesting time in our political and media history.

Voter Fraud

Jess Richman of Old Dominion University has worked with other universities to try and determine the extent of illegal aliens voting in national elections. Their survey determined over six percent of illegals voted in the last presidential election. That is over three quarters of a million fraudulent votes, before we even think about the other ways voter fraud occurs.

Tim Donnelly wrote an article in California Political Review describing the California recipe for voter fraud on a massive scale.

           The Recipe:

Use Saul Alinsky tactics on anyone that proposes voter ID. Shame them, shun them and ridicule them.

Make registering to vote easy, right up to election day.

Encourage as many people as possible to ask for permanent mail in ballots.

Give driver’s licenses to everyone, whether illegal or not. Register everyone who gets a driver’s license to vote.

If voter registration requestors do not specify they are a non-citizen, add them to the voter rolls anyway,

You know there is always more to the story. This information is about illegal aliens voting in national elections, but there are many more forms that voter fraud can take. College students registered in two states. Dead people voting.

One thing that is constant in the United States. Democrats encourage voter fraud in every state. They fight to assure we never get voter ID cards with pictures. They try everything they can to prevent anyone from checking legitimacy of social security numbers.

We have one party that wants to win and morality plays no role in their decision making, Legal or illegal plays no role in their decision making. Win at any cost is all they care about. The Progressive agenda world-wide is the same. Push and keep pushing the liberal agenda. Voter fraud is a good means to accomplish their objectives.

Who They Are

For many years, the Democrats have fooled a lot of people into thinking they were the political party that was compassionate and cared about other people. That is the story line the party has always put out and their communications arm, the main stream media repeats whatever they party line is. If you doubt this, think about how many news shows, news reporters and newspapers use the exact same language and even the same words and phrases the Democrat party feeds to them. News people have stopped trying to hide that they get their marching orders from Democrat sources.

I have been around Democrats all my life. Over the years, I have known some Democrats that were caring compassionate people. Many of them were family members. Most of the compassionate Democrats I have known are no longer with us. Right now, I can think of half a dozen that I feel like they care about other people. Most just care about winning.

The Democrat Party has been moving further to the left for many years. It began around the time they discovered Saul Alinsky. Through the teacher’s unions they have managed to brainwash our children with a left leaning philosophy and moving more and more young people to their way of thinking.

Twelve to fifteen years ago, some compassionate Democrats got together and decided it was unfair if some children got rewarded for the efforts. We have now moved from everyone get a prize all the way to where Democrats do not even have to listen to people that disagree with them.

Donald Trump’s election for President of the United States has coaxed many Democrats to show their true colors. It began with our current President trying to preserve his legacy, which was dismal at best. Almost as soon as the election was over, Obama began taken actions that would defy Donald Trump from completing the agenda the American people elected him to fulfill. Obama is trying to discredit Donald Trump’s presidency as illegitimate. He passed the word to Democrats in Congress and they willingly jumped on board.

The Russians and Chinese have violated our cyber security for years and Obama acknowledges knowing that. He did not care about it at all, until Trump won the election. Now all Democrats are obligated to state that Trump’s presidency is illegitimate, because Putin helped him win. Many are complying with his wish.

Worse than all this evil, is that any Democrat that supports Trump in any manner is demagogued in the media, main stream and social. Anyone who agrees to perform in any of the inauguration ceremonies is subjected to threats to their livelihood, and safety, up to and including some who have received death threats for themselves and their family members. So much for compassion. Can you imagine being a lifelong Democrat and being threatened by your compassionate comrades.

I can. I have always known that is who they are.
